Last year, though, provided the beginnings of a resurgence for Makonnen. Songs like the Rae Sremmurd-assisted \u201cLove\u201d and his Lil Peep collab \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lil-peep-ilovemakonnens-new-song-sunlight-on-your-skin-730217\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunlight On Your Skin<\/a>\u201d proved his talents have sharpened since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpendin&#8217;\u201d is the latest example in the trend upwards. The simple repetition of Makonnen\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m spendin\u2019, I\u2019m spendin\u2019, spendin&#8217;\u201d is hypnotic. The beat is a perfect launchpad for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/gucci-mane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gucci Mane<\/a>, who turns in an inspired performance. Toward the end of the verse Mane lists four opinions, two of which could be argued convincingly as facts: Yes, Gucci is both the \u201ctrap god\u201d and \u201cJay-Z of the South.\u201d It\u2019s not as clear whether Gucci is \u201cthe coolest nigga I done ever seen,\u201d because I don\u2019t know how many people Gucci has met, but La Flare seems trustworthy enough to take him at his word.
