The L.A.-based singer-songwriter Lorely Rodriguez, better known as Empress Of, reprises her masterful synth-pop track \u201cWhen I\u2019m With Him<\/a>\u201d with a dramatic interpretation by indie pop visionary Perfume Genius<\/a>. Pulled from her 2018 sophomore album, Us<\/span><\/em><\/a>, Rodriguez\u2019s misleadingly sunshine-laden production is cast by shadows under Mike Hadreas\u2019 touch; sung in both English and Spanish, Hadreas\u2019 slow rolling vocals add a more chilling timbre to Rodriguez\u2019s lyrics, reflecting her dwindling interest in a relationship that might as well be on life support.<\/p>\n

\u201cDime d\u00f3nde voy\/Dime d\u00f3nde fui,\u201d sings Hadreas, which translates to \u201cTell me where I\u2019m going\/Tell me where I went.\u201d He continues in English, \u201cI\u2019m going back and forth\/Like branches in the breeze.\u201d He lends the song a generous helping of eleganza<\/em>, but not without help from\u00a0Rodriguez and\u00a0Us<\/em> co-producer Jim-E Stack, who joined the queer pop star in the studio for the new track.\u00a0Rodriguez\u2019s own harmonies wink faintly in the distance.<\/p>\n

Empress Of will kick off her headlining tour on February 18th at the Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington D.C. The tour will continue through the U.S. and Europe, concluding March 28th at Whelan\u2019s in Dublin, Ireland.<\/p>\n
