Showtime<\/a> announced Saturday that the network had acquired a feature documentary<\/a> about The Go-Go\u2019s.<\/a>\u00a0The film will premiere late this year.<\/p>\n

The Alison Ellwood-directed film features \u201cfull access\u201d to the band, along with \u201ccandid interviews and archival footage to tell the real story of their meteoric rise to fame and the journeys, triumphs, laughter and struggles along the way,\u201d producers said of the film.<\/p>\n

The Go-Go\u2019s\u00a0posted about the news on social media<\/a> and with lead singer Belinda Carlisle<\/a> tweeted that she was \u201creally happy to finally be able to tell you all\u201d about the news.<\/p>\n

Guitarist Jane Wiedlin tweeted<\/a> that she was \u201cso excited\u201d to share news of the documentary.<\/p>\n

The Go-Go\u2019s made history as the inaugural multi-platinum-selling all-female band who played their own instruments, penned their own tracks and had a Number One album. The band\u2019s breakout moment stemmed from their 1981 debut album Beauty and the Beat<\/em>, which produced classic hits \u00a0\u201cOur Lips Are Sealed\u201d and \u201cWe Got the Beat.\u201d The all-female rock band\u2019s music also features in a new Broadway musical Head Over Heels<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a0The Go-Go\u2019s<\/em>,\u00a0Showtime has acquired recent music documentaries\u00a0Life in 12 Bars<\/em><\/a>, a film about Eric Clapton, which premieres tonight February 10th and the four-part series Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mice and Men<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n
