Miley Cyrus<\/a> made a show-stopping appearance when she joined Shawn Mendes<\/a> for a special duet of the latter\u2019s hit, \u201cIn My Blood,\u201d at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.<\/p>\n

The performance started with Mendes playing the song solo on a grand piano that looked like it had fire and smoke coming from it, even though it was probably dry ice. Eventually, Cyrus\u2019 silhouette appeared on the stage, he grabbed a guitar and joined her as she proceeded to make the song her own, holding the last note of \u201cIn my bloooood<\/em>.\u201d With light on both of them, they were both dressed similarly, like twins, but even as she sang Mendes\u2019 lines about feeling anxious, she was the picture of confidence.<\/p>\n

Mendes is up for two Grammys this year. His self-titled record was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and his song \u201cIn My Blood\u201d was recognized as a potential Song of the Year. Before the broadcast, though, Mendes lost the album nod to Ariana Grande who won for\u00a0Sweetener<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn My Blood,\u201d a song about depression, has proven to be a special song for Mendes. In a Rolling Stone<\/em> cover story, he told a story about how after he\u2019d suffered a panic attack, he found solace in reading tweets from people who\u2019d been moved by the song, such as a woman who\u2019d played it for her daughter in a hospital. \u201cI broke down in my hotel room,\u201d he said. \u201cI started crying, and I was just like, \u2018This is why you talk about shit that actually is real.\u2019 I was like, \u2018God, don\u2019t ever fucking question the feeling of writing the truth again.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Cyrus has only ever been nominated for one Grammy. In 2014, she was up for Best Pop Vocal Album for Bangerz<\/em> but lost to Sam Smith, who won for his In the Lonely Hour<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Her most recent single was \u201cNothing Breaks Like a Heart,\u201d<\/a> a collaboration with Mark Ronson that will appear on his upcoming album; they also covered John Lennon and Yoko Ono\u2019s \u201cHappy Xmas (War Is Over)\u201d<\/a> around Christmastime. Last month, she sang a show-stopping rendition of Temple of the Dog\u2019s \u201cSay Hello 2 Heaven\u201d<\/a> at a tribute concert<\/a> to the band\u2019s late singer, Chris Cornell, in Los Angeles. \u201cI fucking wanted to sing this song tonight,\u201d she said. \u201cWe love you, Chris. Thank you for bringing us all together like you always have.\u201d<\/p>\n
