A<\/span><span>fter spending nine days in a<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/21-savage-is-being-held-in-one-of-the-worst-immigration-detention-centers-in-the-u-s-790472\/\"><span>notoriously harsh detention center<\/span><\/a> <span>outside of Atlanta, Georgia the rapper (real name She\u2019yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph)\u00a0has been released on bond.<\/span> <em><span>Rolling Stone<\/span><\/em> <span>confirmed the release with his legal team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn the last 24 hours, in the wake of the Grammy Awards at which he was scheduled to attend and<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/21-savage-scheduled-to-perform-at-grammys-791170\/\"><span>perform<\/span><\/a><span>, we received notice that She\u2019yaa was granted an expedited hearing,\u201d attorney Charles H. Kuck wrote in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Abraham-Joseph was<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/ice-apprehends-21-savage-claims-rapper-is-british-and-overstayed-visa-789370\/\"><span>arrested and detained<\/span><\/a> <span>by ICE earlier this month for overstaying a visa over a decade ago. Originally from England, he had been in the States since childhood. According to Kuck, the situation has been developing since then. Abraham-Joseph\u2019s legal team \u201chave been speaking with ICE to both clarify his actual legal standing, his eligibility for bond, and provide evidence of his extraordinary contributions to his community and society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It is unclear when Abraham-Joseph\u2019s hearing will take place, how his legal team will proceed in arguing for his continued presence in America, or what the terms of his bond are.<\/span> <em><span>Rolling Stone<\/span><\/em> <span>spoke with a number of immigration lawyers and activists since Abraham-Joseph\u2019s arrest, who collectively consider the case against him to be<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/21-savage-ice-arrest-legal-situation-791267\/\"><span>punitive and wildly complex<\/span><\/a><span>. Also unanswered is why the rapper was picked up by ICE at this moment \u2014 he had applied for a U visa, which grants asylum to the victims of crimes, back in 2017 \u2014 but ICE has not specified the reasoning behind its recent actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the statement from his lawyer, Abraham-Joseph \u201cwill not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country.
