{"id":482643,"date":"2019-02-24T14:07:39","date_gmt":"2019-02-24T21:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=799469"},"modified":"2019-02-24T14:07:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-24T21:07:39","slug":"on-the-charts-ariana-grandes-thank-u-next-holds-number-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/on-the-charts-ariana-grandes-thank-u-next-holds-number-one\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Charts: Ariana Grande\u2019s \u2018Thank U, Next\u2019 Holds Number One"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/9699491bb.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"\/><\/div>\n<p>On this week\u2019s Billboard 200, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ariana-grande\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ariana-grande\" data-tag=\"ariana-grande\">Ariana Grande<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/ariana-grande-thank-u-next-album-review-793887\/\"><em>Thank U, Next<\/em><\/a> claimed Number One for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/charts-ariana-grande-thank-u-next-number-one-796047\/\">second straight week<\/a>, while a decade-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/drake\/\" id=\"auto-tag_drake\" data-tag=\"drake\">Drake<\/a> mixtape debuted in the Top Five.<\/p>\n<p>Grande\u2019s latest LP sold 151,000 total albums in its second week at Number One, with the bulk of that total, 124,000 copies, from streaming equivalent albums (SEAs). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8499722\/ariana-grande-thank-u-next-album-spends-second-week-at-no-1-on-billboard-200-chart\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Billboard<\/em> reports<\/a> that Grande is the first female solo artist to spend two consecutive weeks at Number One since Taylor Swift accomplished it with <em>Reputation<\/em> back in December 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Only one other <em>new<\/em> album \u2013 Florida Georgia Line\u2019s <em>Can\u2019t Say I Ain\u2019t Country<\/em> at Number Four \u2013 opened in the Top 10, but Drake\u2019s 2009 mixtape <em>So Far Gone<\/em> made its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/charts\/\" id=\"auto-tag_charts\" data-tag=\"charts\">charts<\/a> debut at Number Five after the rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/drake-so-far-gone-streaming-794181\/\">unleashed the collection to streaming services<\/a> to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his first release.<\/p>\n<p>Originally distributed for free in 2009, <em>So Far Gone<\/em> sold 45,000 total copies \u2013 38,000 SEAs and 7,000 traditional copies \u2013 in its first official week of release. The mixtape also marked Drake\u2019s 10th Top 10 album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8499727\/drake-scores-10th-top-10-album-on-billboard-200-chart-with-so-far-gone-mixtape\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Billboard<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A pair of soundtracks for Academy Awards-nominated films, <em>Bohemian Rhapsody<\/em> and <em>A Star Is Born<\/em>, placed at Numbers Two and Three, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The back half of the upper tier were Top 10 hip-hop fixtures: A Boogie Wit da Hoodie\u2019s\u00a0<em>Hoodie SZN\u00a0<\/em>at Number Six, Post Malone\u2019s\u00a0<em>Beerbongs &amp; Bentleys<\/em> at Number Seven, Travis Scott\u2019s\u00a0<em>Astroworld\u00a0<\/em>at Number Eight, 21 Savage\u2019s\u00a0<em>I Am &gt; I Was\u00a0<\/em>at Number Nine and Meek Mill\u2019s\u00a0<em>Championships<\/em> at Number 10.<\/p>\n<p>Two new releases \u2013 Offset\u2019s <em>Father of 4<\/em> and Gary Clark Jr.\u2019s <em>This Land<\/em> \u2013 will aim to usurp Grande and the soundtracks from the top of next week\u2019s Billboard 200.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/charts-ariana-grande-thank-u-next-drake-so-far-gone-799469\/\" target=\"_blank\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On this week\u2019s Billboard 200, Ariana Grande\u2019s Thank U, Next claimed Number One for the second straight week, while a decade-old Drake mixtape debuted in the Top Five.
