{"id":482888,"date":"2019-03-01T10:34:25","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T17:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=802053"},"modified":"2019-03-01T10:34:25","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T17:34:25","slug":"frank-zappa-see-first-glimpse-of-guitarists-hologram-in-tour-promo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/frank-zappa-see-first-glimpse-of-guitarists-hologram-in-tour-promo\/","title":{"rendered":"Frank Zappa: See First Glimpse of Guitarist\u2019s Hologram in Tour Promo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/frank-zappa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_frank-zappa\" data-tag=\"frank-zappa\">Frank Zappa<\/a>\u2019s digital proxy proclaims his creative freedom in a new promo for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/frank-zappa-hologram-to-play-with-former-mothers-on-bizarre-world-tour-201421\/\">upcoming tour featuring a hologram of the late guitarist-composer<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m a person who likes to do what he wants to do, whether people like it or not,\u201d Zappa says in a clip from a 1984 interview. \u201cAnd what I do is designed for people who like it, not for people who don\u2019t.\u201d<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The hologram sample hypes \u201cThe Bizarre World of Frank Zappa,\u201d a spring\/summer trek featuring former bandmates of the iconic musician, including guitarists Ray White and Mike Keneally, bassist Scott Thunes, multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin, percussionist Ed Mann and drummer\/Zappa archivist Joe \u201cVaultmeister\u201d Travers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The jaunt launches with a nine-date U.S. leg on April 19th in Port Chester, New York. The American dates continues through May 3rd in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by a run of European shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In particular, the teaser is framed as a response to Ticketmaster censoring the tour\u2019s promotional artwork. The company cited the image\u2014which references Zappa\u2019s 1974 song \u201cPenguin in Bondage\u201d\u2014due to \u201cquestionable content.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Zappa\u2019s son Ahmet, the executor of the Zappa Family Trust, responded to Ticketmaster\u2019s censorship in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIf you\u2019re someone that can\u2019t enjoy the absurdity and humor of bringing Frank\u2019s music and lyrics to life via holograms\u2014such as penguins in bondage, talking hot dogs and super natural dental floss\u2014this show might not be your cup of tea,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIn response to Ticketmaster, I re-submit the poster artwork with our newly updated Warning Guarantee hiding the buttocks of the cartoon penguin. I mean, seriously, Ticketmaster?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-802101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/image001.jpg?w=420\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"436\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Zappa\u2019s other son, guitarist Dweezil, toured throughout 2018 with the long-running tribute project Zappa Plays Zappa.
