Jenny Lewis<\/a> has shared her new song \u201cWasted Youth,\u201d the third single from the singer\u2019s upcoming On the Line<\/em>. Like the LP\u2019s previous singles, Lewis taps into the classic Seventies singer-songwriter sound on \u201cWasted Youth,\u201d a catchy rumination that echoes her own difficult childhood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy are you lying?\/The bourbon\u2019s gone\/Mercury hasn\u2019t been in retrograde for that long, oh no\/Stop your hiding and drop that bomb\/Do you remember when I used to sing you this little song,\u201d Lewis sings. \u201cI wasted my youth on a poppy\/Just for fun.<\/p>\n

On the track, Lewis is backed by an all-star collection of musicians that include bassist Don War, drummer Jim Keltner and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers\u2019 Benmont Tench, who contributes Mellotron and the Vox Continental organ on the single.<\/p>\n

\u201cWasted Youth\u201d follows previous singles \u201cRed Bull & Hennessy<\/a>\u201d and \u201cHeads Will Rol<\/a>l,\u201d which featured Ringo Starr. \u201cHe was cool \u2014 he just showed up one day with a smoothie and did double-drums with Jim [Keltner] on two songs,\u201d Lewis told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> of the Beatle legend\u2019s cameo.<\/p>\n

On the Line, written in the aftermath of Lewis\u2019 breakup from a 12-year relationship and the death of her estranged mother, arrives March 22nd.<\/p>\n
