{"id":483496,"date":"2019-03-16T15:00:41","date_gmt":"2019-03-16T21:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=809212"},"modified":"2019-03-16T15:00:41","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T21:00:41","slug":"michael-jackson-items-removed-from-indianapolis-childrens-museum-after-leaving-neverland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/michael-jackson-items-removed-from-indianapolis-childrens-museum-after-leaving-neverland\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Jackson Items Removed From Indianapolis Children\u2019s Museum After \u2018Leaving Neverland\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/GettyImages-2074340.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The Children\u2019s Museum of Indianapolis, located two hours away from the Jackson family\u2019s hometown of Gary, Indiana, has removed a pair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/michael-jackson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_michael-jackson\" data-tag=\"michael-jackson\">Michael Jackson<\/a> items from display following allegations of child sex abuse in the documentary <em>Leaving Neverland<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>One of Jackson\u2019s iconic gloves and fedoras, purchased at auction in 2017, as well as an autographed Jackson poster were on display at the children\u2019s museum until this month, when curators decided to remove the items following the premiere of <em>Leaving Neverland<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/concerts\/2019\/03\/15\/michael-jackson-items-no-longer-display-childrens-museum\/3154270002\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the <em>Indianapolis Star<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we put together exhibitions, we look at the objects and their association with high-profile people. Obviously, we want to put stories in front of our visitors (showing) people of high character,\u201d the museum\u2019s director of collections Chris Carron told the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you learn new stories or you look at something historical in a different way, then sometimes we re-evaluate whether that\u2019s appropriate to be (on display).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jackson visited the museum in 1990, around the same time he befriended an Indianapolis teenager named Ryan White who was diagnosed with HIV following a blood transfusion. When White died that year, Jackson attended the funeral.<\/p>\n<p>While Jackson hasn\u2019t faced as severe a backlash as R. Kelly in the aftermath of <em>Leaving Neverland<\/em>, there has been some fallout from the two-part HBO film: <em>The Simpsons<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv\/tv-news\/the-simpsons-michael-jackson-episode-pulled-805126\/\">pulled the episode<\/a> featuring a Jackson-voiced character from syndication in light of Wade Robson and James Safechuck\u2019s allegations against the singer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels clearly the only choice to make,\u201d the animated show\u2019s longtime producer James L.
