The lustful themes address a yearning. \u201c\u2018Cause you, you\u2019ve seen me\/Cursed, I\u2019ve been betrayed,\u201d Etheridge emotively sings. \u201cAll the night I\u2019ve lost my way\/And I feel so wild and lonely\/Won\u2019t you come save me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Etheridge said in a press statement that she was touching on themes from her past, but with a new perspective. The line \u201can angry craving seeps into my skin,\u201d she explains \u201cwas like old-school Melissa. It\u2019s fun for me to play with \u2018me\u2019 now, for 57-year-old Melissa to play with angst,\u201d she said. \u201cThe whole song is about being on the road, being hungry, wanting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted the album to have a sound, a feel,\u201d she continued. \u201c\u2018Wild and Lonely\u2019 really dialed that in for me \u2026 the song is the perfect example of the sound I wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWild and Lonely\u201d follows her upcoming 15th studio album\u2019s previously released single \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/melissa-etheridge-new-song-faded-by-design-medicine-show-796872\/\">Faded By Design<\/a>.\u201d <em>The Medicine Show<\/em> album, as a whole, deals with Etheridge\u2019s unapologetic attitude toward her own well-being, and specifically the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/cannabis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cannabis\" data-tag=\"cannabis\">cannabis<\/a> \u2014 a stance that echoes her longtime advocacy for pot legalization.
