{"id":483633,"date":"2019-03-20T07:32:31","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T13:32:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=810566"},"modified":"2019-03-20T07:32:31","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T13:32:31","slug":"jay-z-cyndi-lauper-curtis-mayfield-added-to-national-recording-registry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/jay-z-cyndi-lauper-curtis-mayfield-added-to-national-recording-registry\/","title":{"rendered":"Jay-Z, Cyndi Lauper, Curtis Mayfield Added to National Recording Registry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/shutterstock_9899323c-e1553087842679.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jay-z\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jay-z\" data-tag=\"jay-z\">Jay-Z<\/a>\u2019s <em>The Blueprint<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/cyndi-lauper\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cyndi-lauper\" data-tag=\"cyndi-lauper\">Cyndi Lauper<\/a>\u2019s <em>She\u2019s So Unusual<\/em>, Curtis Mayfield\u2019s <em>Superfly<\/em> soundtrack<em>,<\/em> Neil Diamond\u2019s \u201cSweet Caroline\u201d and Nina Simone\u2019s \u201cMississippi Goddam\u201d are among the 25 recordings that will be added to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/library-of-congress\/\" id=\"auto-tag_library-of-congress\" data-tag=\"library-of-congress\">Library of Congress<\/a>\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/item\/prn-19-018\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">National Recording Registry<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The eclectic list also includes Earth, Wind and Fire\u2019s hit single \u201cSeptember,\u201d the original Broadway cast recording of the musical <em>Hair<\/em>, Ritchie Valens\u2019 \u201cLa Bamba,\u201d Sylvester\u2019s \u201cYou Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)\u201d and a box set featuring the music of <em>Schoolhouse Rock!<\/em> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/national-recording-registry\/\" id=\"auto-tag_national-recording-registry\" data-tag=\"national-recording-registry\">National Recording Registry<\/a> now boasts 525 recordings that have been deemed \u201cworthy of preservation because of their cultural, historic and aesthetic importance to the nation\u2019s recorded sound heritage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Speaking of the inclusion of <em>She\u2019s So Unusual<\/em>, Lauper said, \u201cI was really determined to make a cohesive collection of songs and really determined to make sure all types of women were represented in the \u2018Girls\u2026 [Just Want to Have Fun]\u2019 video. I had this very strong vision of how I wanted to put the music together.
