Jay-Z<\/a>\u2019s The Blueprint<\/em>, Cyndi Lauper<\/a>\u2019s She\u2019s So Unusual<\/em>, Curtis Mayfield\u2019s Superfly<\/em> soundtrack,<\/em> Neil Diamond\u2019s \u201cSweet Caroline\u201d and Nina Simone\u2019s \u201cMississippi Goddam\u201d are among the 25 recordings that will be added to the Library of Congress<\/a>\u2019 National Recording Registry<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n

The eclectic list also includes Earth, Wind and Fire\u2019s hit single \u201cSeptember,\u201d the original Broadway cast recording of the musical Hair<\/em>, Ritchie Valens\u2019 \u201cLa Bamba,\u201d Sylvester\u2019s \u201cYou Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)\u201d and a box set featuring the music of Schoolhouse Rock!<\/em> The National Recording Registry<\/a> now boasts 525 recordings that have been deemed \u201cworthy of preservation because of their cultural, historic and aesthetic importance to the nation\u2019s recorded sound heritage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking of the inclusion of She\u2019s So Unusual<\/em>, Lauper said, \u201cI was really determined to make a cohesive collection of songs and really determined to make sure all types of women were represented in the \u2018Girls\u2026 [Just Want to Have Fun]\u2019 video. I had this very strong vision of how I wanted to put the music together. If this is going to be my thing, and if this is the only time I ever get to open my mouth and sing, I want it to be great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Released in 2001, Jay-Z\u2019s The Blueprint<\/em> is the most contemporary work on the 2019 list, while the oldest is a collection of some of the earliest-known recordings of Yiddish songs, dated between 1901 and 1905.<\/p>\n
