Barbra Streisand<\/a> issued a statement Saturday clarifying her controversial comments<\/a> regarding the two men who accused Michael Jackson<\/a> of sexual abuse in the documentary Leaving Neverland<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

In comments made to the Times UK<\/em><\/a> that were immediately met with condemnation on social media, Streisand seemed to downplay the molestation accusations and their impact on Wade Robson and James Safechuck \u2013 \u201cYou can say \u2018molested\u2019, but those children, as you heard say, they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn\u2019t kill them\u201d \u2013 and excused Jackson\u2019s alleged abuse as \u201chis sexual needs were his sexual needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be crystal clear, there is no situation or circumstance where it is OK for the innocence of children to be taken advantage of by anyone,\u201d Streisand said Saturday in a statement (via Variety<\/em>). \u201cThe stories these two young men shared were painful to hear, and I feel nothing but sympathy for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her Times UK<\/em> interview, Streisand, like many others<\/a>, also blamed Robson and Safechuck\u2019s parents for the alleged sexual abuse their sons\u2019 endured while with Jackson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe single most important role of being a parent is to protect their children,\u201d Streisand added Saturday. \u201cIt\u2019s clear that the parents of the two young men were also victimized and seduced by fame and fantasy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streisand\u2019s remarks were swiftly met with criticism on social media, with even Leaving Neverland<\/em> director Dan Reed perplexed by the singer\u2019s comments. \u201c\u2018It didn\u2019t kill them\u2019 @barbrastreisand did you really say that?!,\u201d Reed tweeted<\/a>. \u201c\u2018His sexual needs were his sexual needs\u2019 \u2013 is pedophilia tolerated in parts of the entertainment industry?\u201d<\/p>\n
