Julia Michaels<\/a> and Niall Horan<\/a> make a convincingly heartbroken pair in \u201cWhat a Time,\u201d the duet from Michaels\u2019 Inner Monologue Part 1<\/em> EP. But they didn\u2019t appear together in the original video<\/a> for the song, where Michaels poured her heart out to a silent lookalike for the former One Direction singer.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s changed for a new acoustic version of \u201cWhat a Time,\u201d whose video features both of them in the flesh, mourning a relationship that just wasn\u2019t meant to last. Sitting with Michaels in what looks like an L.A. living room, Horan accompanies her on acoustic guitar before joining in on the song\u2019s second verse: \u201cI know we didn\u2019t end it like we\u2019re supposed to\/And now we get a bit tense\/I wonder if my mind just leaves out all the bad parts\/I know we didn\u2019t make sense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The studio version of \u201cWhat a Time\u201d is mostly acoustic to begin with, so the differences in this video are subtle ones \u2014 a little more rawness in Michaels\u2019 and Horan\u2019s vocals, no more movie-scene strings. It all combines to make the song\u2019s feeling of regret hit even harder.<\/p>\n

Michaels is currently working a double shift on the road: She\u2019s midway through her first-ever solo headlining tour, whose dates are scheduled on her nights off as an opening act on Pink\u2019s Beautiful Trauma World Tour. Her next EP, Inner Monologue Part II<\/em>, is expected soon.<\/p>\n
