{"id":484054,"date":"2019-03-29T19:42:50","date_gmt":"2019-03-30T01:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=814722"},"modified":"2019-03-29T19:42:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-30T01:42:50","slug":"read-bryan-ferrys-hall-of-fame-speech-on-behalf-of-roxy-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/read-bryan-ferrys-hall-of-fame-speech-on-behalf-of-roxy-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Read Bryan Ferry\u2019s Hall of Fame Speech on Behalf of Roxy Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/bryan-ferry-roxy-music.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/roxy-music\/\" id=\"auto-tag_roxy-music\" data-tag=\"roxy-music\">Roxy Music<\/a> have been eligible for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame\" data-tag=\"rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame\">Rock and Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> ever since their debut single \u201cVirginia Plain\u201d turned 25 in 1997, but they were always more popular in their native England than America and even members of the band are a little surprised they got in this year. \u201cI always felt we were a little too far out there for the general public in America even though we have a strong following in some pockets over there,\u201d Roxy saxophonist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/roxy-music-andy-mackay-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-interview-bryan-ferry-reunion-780206\/\">Andy Mackay told Rolling Stone late last year.<\/a> \u201cIt was very surprising to hear.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Unsurprisingly, keyboardist Brian Eno \u2014 who left the group in 1973 and hasn\u2019t appeared with them onstage since \u2014 didn\u2019t show up for the ceremony. Drummer Paul Thompson was also a no-show even though he was a consistent member of the group from their first album all the way to their final reunion gigs in 2011. But lead singer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bryan-ferry\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bryan-ferry\" data-tag=\"bryan-ferry\">Bryan Ferry<\/a>, guitarist Phil Manzanera and Mackay were all on hand to accept the award, marking their first appearance as a group in eight years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bryan Ferry spoke to behalf of the entire band, thanking the various musicians, producers, personnel and artists who have worked with Roxy Music over the years. Here were his complete remarks following a speech by Simon Le Bon and John Taylor of Duran Duran.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019d like to thank everybody for this unexpected honor, especially our fans around the world, who\u2019ve supported us through the years. I\u2019d also like to thank all the musicians, who played such an important part in the Roxy Music story, especially Paul Thompson and Brian Eno. Eddie Jobson, who\u2019s here with us tonight. It\u2019s quite a long list of bass players I\u2019m afraid. And with that I\u2019d like to thank Graham Simpson, Rik Kenton, John Porter, John Gustafson, John Wetton, Gary Tibbs, Sal Maida, Rick Wills, Alan Spenner and Neil Jason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Moving on to the<\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><em>Avalon<\/em><\/span> <span class=\"s1\">years, I\u2019d like to also mention Andy Newmark, Allan Schwartzberg, Jimmy Maelen, Paul Carrack, Neil Hubbard, Yannick Etienne and Fonzi Thornton.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Also, the band helping us tonight \u2026 Jorja Chalmers\u2026 and the legendary Chris Spedding.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019ve always had a great team behind the scenes, including our producers Rhett Davies, Chris Thomas, John Punter and Pete Sinfield. \u2026 And the master of mastering Bob Ludwig. Our managers were Mark Fenwick and David Enthoven \u2026 and Christian Wainwright, and the late great Dr. Simon Puxley, who was our professor of public relations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Finally, the album covers.
