{"id":484505,"date":"2019-04-09T21:47:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T03:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=820399"},"modified":"2019-04-09T21:47:17","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T03:47:17","slug":"hear-nick-lowes-wistful-new-song-trombone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/hear-nick-lowes-wistful-new-song-trombone\/","title":{"rendered":"Hear Nick Lowe\u2019s Wistful New Song \u2018Trombone\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/8976680at.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nick-lowe\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nick-lowe\" data-tag=\"nick-lowe\">Nick Lowe<\/a> traverses fleeting love and ensuing loneliness with a dose of wry observation on new song \u201cTrombone.\u201d Backed by Los Straitjackets, the Sixties brass pop-infused cut will appear on Lowe\u2019s forthcoming <em>Starvation\/Trombone<\/em> EP, which will be released on May 17th via Yep Roc.<\/p>\n<p>While Lowe cleverly plays into the \u201csad trombone\u201d trope, at heart the song addresses themes of navigating abandonment after love is lost. \u201cTrombone, come play your song\/Make it the one about good love gone wrong,\u201d he sings. \u201cMy one true love has flown\/So blow something sad and slow for me, trombone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly, the horn-inflected tune features the title instrument, played by trombonist Duane Benjamin. Lowe\u2019s forthcoming EP is the follow-up to the 2018 EP, <em>Tokyo Bay\/Crying Inside<\/em>, which also features Los Straitjackets. <em>Love Starvation\/Trombone<\/em> includes the previously released \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/hear-nick-lowe-love-starvation-los-straitjackets-797626\/\">Love Starvation<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApart from being a fantastic rock \u2018n\u2019 roll band, they know how to play tons of different styles really well,\u201d Lowe wrote of his Los Straitjackets collaborators, who first teamed up with him in 2012 during a 15th anniversary event for their mutual label, Yep Roc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can knock you out a version of Bacharach &amp; David\u2019s \u2018The Look of Love\u2019 with no trouble at all. Plus, we get on with each other really well. And that makes the music work,\u201d he continued. \u201cThis is a collaboration. They\u2019re in no way my backing band. At first, they very kindly started learning up my records, note for note. I told them, \u2018Don\u2019t do that. Just learn the chords and we\u2019ll play them together so it sounds as natural as we can make it.\u2019 Rather than doing some kind of tribute band kind of act, you know?
