However, there was one cover that caught her by surprise: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/taylor-swift\/\" id=\"auto-tag_taylor-swift\" data-tag=\"taylor-swift\">Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2019s \u201cTim McGraw.\u201d Rogers discussed her history with the country-pop song on the Season Two premiere of <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/3PJUjNlzOUFBNmVWgqfvbH\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify\u2019s Under Cover podcast<\/a>&nbsp;and covered the song at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/spotify\/\" id=\"auto-tag_spotify\" data-tag=\"spotify\">Spotify<\/a> Studios in New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was in the sixth grade when \u2018Tim McGraw\u2019 came out,\u201d Rogers explained of the early Swift song. \u201cI remember so specifically having friends that loved the song and I was such a music snob. I was really into like, Brand New and Rage Against the Machine.\u201d Rogers remembered attending a slumber party, where \u201cTim McGraw\u201d was the featured song in <em>Seventeen Magazine<\/em>. Everyone at the sleepover was excited, while she found herself sighing and saying, \u2018It\u2019s just not hard enough.&#8217;\u201d Since then though, things have changed. \u201cThank God I grew out of that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTim McGraw\u201d reentered Rogers\u2019 life when she began to drive more frequently. \u201cI got a license when I was 17, but went to boarding school for high school and then I went to NYU and then I got a tour bus,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I just haven\u2019t done a tone of driving.\u201d When Rogers was making the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MSFjYe54uv4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cLight On\u201d<\/a> video with her friend Olivia Bee, they took a four-day road trip in Southern Oregon. \u201cOne of the ways that Olivia and I would stay up is by singing along in the car to old Taylor Swift records,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why I think in my cover, you can hear driving. And that sort of comes from that eighth note, constant bass line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogers describes her process in covering the song. \u201cI<span>t\u2019s such a beautiful sentiment too of like, bleeding affection and saying goodbye to someone,\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted you to be able to feel that longing.\u201d She explains \u201cflipping\u201d the track by changing it to minor. \u201cMy music tends to find its roots in songwriting,\u201d Rogers said. \u201cAnd then I have lots of fun with the production.\u201d<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The songwriter analyzes the concept of genre, and how it\u2019s mainly thought of when selling music, but not creating it.
