Lizzo<\/a> has never been shy about standing up for herself. In the second grade, her math teacher called her mom in because \u201cMelissa\u201d was trying to teach the class herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was this little girl, and I was like giving it to the teacher like, \u2018You need to teach us better!’\u201d recalls Lizzo. \u201c\u2018Cause she was always going on tangents, talking about how we need to wash our hair. And I\u2019m like, \u2018Girl, teach math!’\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with her elementary school memories, Lizzo remembers her first *NSYNC concert and learning how to play the flute in the latest installment of \u201cThe First Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The past year has been a significant one for the Detroit rapper, singer and flautist (in October, a video of her \u201cplaying the flute then hitting the shoot\u201d went viral<\/a> on Twitter). Following the success of singles \u201cBoys,\u201d<\/a> \u201cJuice\u201d<\/a> and \u201cCuz I Love You,\u201d<\/a> she released a bass-heavy, club-ready collaboration with Missy Elliott, \u201cTempo.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I collaborated with Missy was last year,\u201d says Lizzo. \u201cI was just flying to Atlanta, getting in a studio with Missy and just freestyling. She would just play a beat, she\u2019d be like, \u2018How this make you feel?\u2019, and then put me in a booth and I would just freestyle. And now we have a song together! Which was not included in those freestyles, this was completely separate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her upcoming third studio album, Cuz I Love You<\/em>, will be out April 19th.<\/p>\n
