{"id":484836,"date":"2019-04-18T11:45:37","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T17:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=824189"},"modified":"2019-04-18T11:45:37","modified_gmt":"2019-04-18T17:45:37","slug":"grateful-deads-early-days-chronicled-in-new-graphic-novel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/grateful-deads-early-days-chronicled-in-new-graphic-novel\/","title":{"rendered":"Grateful Dead\u2019s Early Days Chronicled in New Graphic Novel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-grateful-dead\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-grateful-dead\" data-tag=\"the-grateful-dead\">The Grateful Dead<\/a> have teamed with Z2 Comics to create a biographical graphic novel that will hit shelves in early 2020 and come with an exclusive record featuring previously unreleased music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em>Grateful Dead Origins<\/em> will focus on the band\u2019s early days and, per a statement, their \u201ctransformation from a bar band performing as the Warlocks to becoming the creators of their own sound and forefathers for the jamband culture.\u201d Chris Miskiewicz will write the book while Noah Van Sciver will illustrate it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cChris and Noah have captured the Dead\u2019s sensibility in their words and images that bring to life on the page the earliest days of the Grateful Dead, from the band\u2019s founding in 1965 through to Woodstock,\u201d said Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t be happier to be partnering with such talented artists who have delved so deeply into the Dead\u2019s history and origin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-824225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Deadcoverorigins.jpg?w=706\" alt width=\"706\" height=\"1024\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.z2comics.com\/shop\/grateful-dead\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">deluxe edition<\/a> of <em>Grateful Dead<\/em> origins will be released in hardcover and come with a special vinyl record featuring a selection of unreleased Grateful Dead music from the era the book covers (a track list has yet to be announced). The package will also include three art prints signed by the book\u2019s creators. A standard edition will also be released in softcover and come with <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">a<\/span> download of Grateful Dead music from the era.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em>Grateful Dead Origins<\/em> marks the latest music-based project from Z2.
