Recently, Glass was interviewed again by a different composer, Nico Muhly \u2014 who has collaborated with Sufjan Stevens and Bj\u00f6rk over the years \u2014 to discuss his score for the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/broadway\/\" id=\"auto-tag_broadway\" data-tag=\"broadway\">Broadway<\/a> run of <em>King Lear<\/em>, with Glenda Jackson playing Shakespeare\u2019s tragic ruler.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Glass has scored the production of a Shakespeare play \u2014 he composed the music for the 1989 Off-Broadway production of <em>Cymbeline<\/em> at the Public <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/theater\/\" id=\"auto-tag_theater\" data-tag=\"theater\">Theater<\/a> \u2014 but <em>King Lear<\/em> will be by far one of the most widely-attended productions featuring Glass\u2019 music. He tells Muhly about getting to book a string quartet for the performance, but being surprised by director Sam Gold\u2019s decision to put them onstage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s mixing them into the action, where they\u2019re no longer sitting down,\u201d says Glass. \u201cAt one point, the king is waking up from a deep slumber, and his doctor is there.
