In honor of Mother\u2019s Day, Lucy Dacus<\/a> has released a new song \u201cMy Mother & I.\u201d The serene, lullaby-like track is also, in Dacus\u2019s words, an ode to the Taurus astrological season.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBeing adopted has encouraged me to consider what mothers pass on through blood and body, and what they impart in the way of socialization and context,\u201d Dacus said of the track in a statement. \u201cWe \u2013 daughters, and all children \u2013 easily inherit the shame and fear of our mothers, but also the pride, self-assurance, and lessons of love. This song focuses on body image and the distinction between the body and the soul, which I can hardly claim to have clarity about to this day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dacus adds, \u201cI also reflect on traits my mother and I share as Taurean women \u2013 how we are steadfast but headstrong, empathetic but grounded, and dedicated to finding and giving reliable love and comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMy Mother & I\u201d is the second song in Dacus\u2019s 2019<\/em> series of holiday songs, following her Valentine\u2019s Day cover of \u201cLa Vie En Rose.\u201d The series will also include songs tied to Independence Day, Halloween, Christmas, New Year\u2019s, and Bruce Springsteen\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n

Dacus is currently touring the U.S. and Europe through July, culminating in a taping at Austin City Limits on July 30th, where fellow Boygenius member Julien Baker<\/a> will also perform.<\/div>\n
