{"id":485107,"date":"2019-04-25T18:58:40","date_gmt":"2019-04-26T00:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=827581"},"modified":"2019-04-25T18:58:40","modified_gmt":"2019-04-26T00:58:40","slug":"lauv-enters-an-alternate-universe-in-new-drugs-the-internet-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/lauv-enters-an-alternate-universe-in-new-drugs-the-internet-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Lauv Enters an Alternate Universe in New \u2018Drugs &amp; the Internet\u2019 Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/LauvDrugsInternetVideo.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lauv\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lauv\" data-tag=\"lauv\">Lauv<\/a> reflects on the superficial nature of social media and its detrimental repercussions in his new video for \u201cDrugs &amp; the Internet.\u201d The song will appear on his forthcoming LP, <em>How I\u2019m Feeling<\/em>, which is the follow-up to his 2018 compilation, <em>I Met You When I Was 18<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The song opens on a contemplative note with a piano melody as Lauv moves down a deserted street after a night at the bar. \u201cI wonder what it feels like to be more than I am,\u201d he sings as he kicks an old computer monitor, which transports him to an alternate digital universe in the Jenna Marsh-directed clip.<\/p>\n<p>As the song kicks into a bouncy groove, Lauv finds himself in a bleak new world. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t want to base my actions on reactions or the things they say\/And I don\u2019t want to hit delete on all the parts of me that they might hate,\u201d he sings as he attends a sterile dinner party where mannequin-like people seem oblivious to the fiery peril around them.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s interspersed with scenes of Lauv examining how he portrays himself in a mirror. \u201cI traded all my friends for drugs and the internet,\u201d he sings on the chorus. \u201cAh shit, am I a winner yet?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wrote \u2018Drugs &amp; the Internet\u2019 at a time I was struggling with feelings of extreme emptiness and depression. I wrote it as a sort of self-analysis for my obsession with the way I wanted present myself to the world \u2014 a commentary on the world we live today,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cIt is as much self-deprecating as it is serious and sad. It flew out of me in an hour.
