{"id":485144,"date":"2019-04-26T11:33:19","date_gmt":"2019-04-26T17:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=827833"},"modified":"2019-04-26T11:33:19","modified_gmt":"2019-04-26T17:33:19","slug":"see-rammstein-become-old-timey-big-band-in-radio-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/see-rammstein-become-old-timey-big-band-in-radio-video\/","title":{"rendered":"See Rammstein Become Old-Timey Big Band in \u2018Radio\u2019 Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/GrabberRaster-0009.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>After an old-timey introduction promising \u201cdance music,\u201d a dapper-looking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rammstein\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rammstein\" data-tag=\"rammstein\">Rammstein<\/a> launch into a heavy-metal march (complete with imagery of stormtroopers) in the video for \u201cRadio,\u201d a track off their upcoming, as-yet-untitled album.<\/p>\n<p>The black-and-white clip, directed by longtime Rammstein collaborator J\u00f6rn Heitmann, shows imagery of women in World War II-era factory gear building ancient-looking transistor radios, another woman with a radio in a baby carriage (and breastfeeding it) and a boy spying on a woman making love to yet another radio. A nun even prays to one. Rammstein are dressed in tuxes and bowties like a 1940s big band, and frontman Till Lindemann wears makeup making him look a bit like Joel Grey in <em>Cabaret<\/em>. Through it all, the soldiers attempt to crack down on people enjoying the music \u2014 until they start to feel moved by it themselves.<\/p>\n<p>For as sinister and fascistic as it all looks, though, the German lyrics pretty much translate to Lindemann merely singing about how much he loves his radio. \u201cI let myself suck in the ether,\u201d he sings. \u201cMy ears become eyes \u2026 so I hear what I do not see.\u201d Ultimately, it\u2019s a statement against censorship and totalitarianism leading to a surrealistic finale.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes out on May 17th, the record will be the band\u2019s first since 2009\u2019s <em>Liebe Ist F\u00fcr Alle Da<\/em>. Olsen Involtini, who plays in the side project Emigrate with Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe, co-produced the LP with the band.
