The Cure<\/a> will mark the 30th anniversary of their best-selling album, Disintegration<\/em>, this spring with a series of special gigs where they\u2019ll play the album in its entirety at the Sydney Opera House. The record is home to a number of hit singles, including \u201cLovesong,\u201d which was a Number Two hit in the U.S., as well as \u201cLullaby,\u201d \u201cFascination Street\u201d and \u201cPictures of You.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band will livestream the last show, set to take place on May 30th, via Facebook and YouTube. It will start at 8 p.m. Australian EST (or about 6 a.m. in New York City that same day). The Sydney Opera House has a page<\/a> dedicated to the livestream. If you\u2019re unable to wake up in time to watch the stream, the show will be available for on-demand viewing \u201cfor a period of time\u201d after it airs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to celebrating the anniversary of this special album with you all,\u201d the group wrote on its website<\/a>, \u201cand remember: Disintegration<\/em> was mixed to be played loud\u2026 so turn it up!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, the Cure were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a rousing speech<\/a> by Nine Inch Nails\u2019 Trent Reznor. \u201cI remember distinctly saying to myself, among other things, how can I even take this awards ceremony seriously if they\u2019ll open their doors to X, Y and Z and not acknowledge the Cure?\u201d he said. \u201cNot so long ago I get a phone call I wasn\u2019t expecting, and, well, here we are. Let\u2019s just say I\u2019ve never been as happy to eat my words as I was tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

After playing a five-song set<\/a>, including Disintegration\u2019s<\/em> \u201cLovesong,\u201d frontman Robert Smith<\/a> spoke with Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em>, saying that album was inspiring the band\u2019s upcoming LP. \u201cBecause it\u2019s the anniversary of Disintegration<\/em>, I was thinking about how we did that, and how we turned that into something and what my mindset was,\u201d he said. \u201cA key part of it was everyone being away from home, being away from everything they loved and being in one place at the same time. So for the first time in 20 years, we went into a studio \u2014 we actually went into the studio where they did \u2018Bohemian Rhapsody,\u2019 funnily enough. It\u2019s a great studio in the middle of nowhere. We just played music for three weeks. And it\u2019s great. I know everyone says that. But it really is fucking great.\u201d<\/p>\n
