The track was paired with a video showing Staples and Harper recording \u201cWe Get By\u201d in the studio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe Get By\u201d boasts a simple instrumental groove with a languid guitar peeling around a steady bump of drums and bass. The track comes with a black-and-white music video that captures Staples and Harper recording their vocals, trading verses before effortlessly harmonizing on the chorus, \u201cWe get by, we get by\/No matter what happens, I\u2019ll be there for you\/We get by.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe Get By\u201d follows the album\u2019s lead single, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/mavis-staples-ben-harper-produced-album-we-get-by-change-810611\/\">Change<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/mavis-staples-new-song-anytime-album-we-get-by-823478\/\">Anytime<\/a>.\u201d Harper produced all of <em>We Get By<\/em>, having previously collaborated with Staples on the song \u201cLove and Trust\u201d off her 2016 album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/livin-on-a-high-note-191050\/\"><em>Livin\u2019 On a High Note<\/em><\/a>. <em>We Get By<\/em> marks Staples\u2019 12th studio album and follows her 2017 LP, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-mavis-staples-and-producer-jeff-tweedy-fight-the-powers-that-be-127586\/\"><em>If All I Was Was Black<\/em><\/a>, which was produced by Wilco\u2019s Jeff Tweedy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Staples recently performed the first of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/mavis-staples-birthday-concerts-tour-794024\/\">three special shows<\/a> commemorating her upcoming 80th birthday, July 10th. The first gig took place in New York City last week, while Staples will perform at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee tonight, May 15th.
