The band filmed the show and is now releasing it to cinemas as <em>Anniversary 1978 \u2013 2018: Live in Hyde Park London<\/em> for a one-day-only event on July 11th. Tickets will go on sale on June 6th via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecure.film\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a special website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis really was the perfect way to celebrate 40 years of the band,\u201d frontman Robert Smith said in a statement. \u201cIt was a fabulous day none of us will ever forget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group drew heavily from their landmark <em>Disintegration<\/em> album \u2013 which they\u2019re celebrating with special shows in Australia and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-cure-disintegration-show-livestream-830422\/\">a livestream<\/a> this week \u2013 and songs from <em>The Head on the Door<\/em>, <em>Boys Don\u2019t Cry<\/em>, <em>Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me<\/em> and <em>Wish<\/em>. It also marked the first time the band had played <em>Boys Don\u2019t Cry\u2019s<\/em> \u201cJumping on Someone Else\u2019s Train\u201d and <em>Three Imaginary Boys\u2019<\/em> \u201cGrinding Halt\u201d in years.<\/p>\n<p>Filmmaker Tim Pope, who directed the Cure\u2019s clips for \u201cFriday I\u2019m in Love,\u201d \u201cPictures of You\u201d and \u201cLovesong,\u201d among many others, directed the picture, which was shot in 4K. Smith partnered with Paul Corkett on a 5.1 surround sound mix for the screening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking alongside Robert for these 37 years of the band\u2019s 40-year history \u2014 and also having previously filmed the band for the 35mm <em>In Orange<\/em> 1986 concert film \u2014 I wanted cinemagoers to feel like they were in the thick of the action, in the heart of the music,\u201d Pope said. \u201cOur film really captures the true power and passion of The Cure\u2019s music for a global audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-live-reviews\/the-cure-celebrate-40th-anniversary-with-hit-filled-hyde-park-show-696863\/\">Rolling Stone reviewed<\/a><\/em> the Hyde Park show hailing the \u201cunique power of the Cure\u2019s live performance.\u201d \u201cEven with so many people watching them, Smith\u2019s bashfulness and earnestness creates an intimacy that\u2019s rare for shows of this size,\u201d the review said. \u201cBut because the band has a dedicated fanbase of hardcore fans eager to hear deep cuts like their <em>The Crow<\/em> soundtrack contribution \u2018Burn\u2019 as much as \u2018High,\u2019 it\u2019s easy to get swept up in the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-cure-40th-anniversary-concert-film-841494\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cure marked their 40th anniversary last year with a special concert in London, where they played a career-spanning selection of hits, deep cuts and rarities.
