{"id":486440,"date":"2019-05-29T22:01:58","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T04:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=840753"},"modified":"2019-05-29T22:01:58","modified_gmt":"2019-05-30T04:01:58","slug":"max-b-continues-comeback-with-dont-push-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/max-b-continues-comeback-with-dont-push-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Max B Continues Comeback With \u2018Don\u2019t Push Me\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/MAXBRES2.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><span>On Wednesday night, incarcerated rapper Max B released his second newly recorded song in as many weeks. \u201cDon\u2019t Push Me\u201d offers a singsong update of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five\u2019s seminal single \u201cThe Message;\u201d along with the recently released \u201cHold On,\u201d the latest track will appear on Max B\u2019s next mixtape with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/french-montana\/\" id=\"auto-tag_french-montana\" data-tag=\"french-montana\">French Montana<\/a>,<\/span> <em><span>Coke Wave 3<\/span><\/em><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Speaking from prison on Wednesday, Max B said \u201cDon\u2019t Push Me\u201d aimed to \u201crecapture some of that old flavor \u2014 that Grandmaster Flash feel, that Ice Cube \u2018Check Yo Self\u2019 feel.\u201d \u201cThere\u2019s no more riding music out there right now, that\u2019s some ancient folklore,\u201d Max B added. \u201cSo we gotta put that back in perspective. I was coming with some funk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For help on his latest track, Max B called in his longtime collaborator French Montana, the producer<\/span> <span>Paul Couture (who handled \u201cHold On\u201d) and the artist Will Luo (the blazing cover art)<\/span><span>. French Montana riffs on the original lyrics from \u201cThe Message\u201d as well as the hook of Puff Daddy\u2019s \u201cBeen Around the World,\u201d which in turn recycled Lisa Stansfield\u2019s \u201cAll Around the World.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All the throwback references are purposeful: \u201cMy agenda was to attract the older fanbase who now listen to today\u2019s music and are like, \u2018nah, I\u2019m not listening to that shit,\u2019 \u2019cause they can\u2019t relate to it,\u201d Max B explained. \u201cI\u2019m trying to put some of that old flavor in with this new revolution we got going on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Though Max B hadn\u2019t released a freshly recorded song in eight years before \u201cHold On,\u201d the track received more than 100 spins at radio last week from stations around the Northeast, plus SiriusXM\u2019s Shade 45.
