Festival stages will be hosting everyone from Childish Gambino to Phish to Brandi Carlile this summer, and breakout artists from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/noname\/\" id=\"auto-tag_noname\" data-tag=\"noname\">Noname<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/billie-eilish\/\" id=\"auto-tag_billie-eilish\" data-tag=\"billie-eilish\">Billie Eilish<\/a> will be turning concertgoers on their ears in venues as large as Red Rocks. Since this is one of the most exciting times of the year to go to concerts, we\u2019ve picked a bakers\u2019 dozen worth of gigs you don\u2019t want to miss before the mercury drops.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ariana-grande\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ariana-grande\" data-tag=\"ariana-grande\">Ariana Grande<\/a><br \/>May 31 \u2013 August 4<\/h4>\n<p><strong>God is a woman \u2014 a strong, confident, resilient one whom nothing seems to hold back \u2014 and she\u2019s playing arenas all over North America this summer. What will make this tour a winner is the breadth of music Ariana Grande to draw from, since she has been putting out practically an album a year since 2013 \u2014<em>Thank U, Next<\/em> came out <em>just six months<\/em> after <em>Sweetener<\/em> \u2014 so she has more than enough material to pack into the supersized, eye-popping, five-act show (plus an encore) that she debuted earlier this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/paul-mccartney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paul-mccartney\" data-tag=\"paul-mccartney\">Paul McCartney<\/a><\/strong><br \/>May 30 \u2013 July 13<\/h4>\n<p>When the Beatles played Shea Stadium, they spent less than an hour onstage before saying goodnight. Now, more than half a century later, Paul McCartney thrills fans with nearly four-hour shows, packed with favorites by the Beatles and Wings, solo hits and the occasional surprise, whether that\u2019s the synth-laden \u201cTemporary Secretary,\u201d his Kanye-Rihanna collabo \u201cFourFive Seconds\u201d or the Beatles\u2019 \u201cThings We Said Today,\u201d depending on your level of fandom.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vividseats.com\/concerts\/noname-tickets.html?utm_source=rs&amp;utm_campaign=RSCon1&amp;utm_medium=affiliate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Noname<\/strong><\/a><br \/>May 31 \u2013&nbsp;August 21<\/h4>\n<p>Last year, <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> dubbed Noname <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/noname-room-25-profile-724456\/\">\u201cone of the best rappers alive,\u201d<\/a> and now she\u2019s hitting the road to defend the title. Her second album, <em>Room 25<\/em>, blends jazz, easy listening and bassy beats with her deftly mellifluous rhymes about Blaxploitation, feeling fragile and how she can\u2019t believe that recently #MeToo\u2019d actor Morgan Freeman is still acting. Throughout, she shifts from topic to topic with blink-and-you\u2019ll-miss-it ease. \u201cY\u2019all really thought a bitch can\u2019t rap, huh?\u201d she asked on the album\u2019s intro with a laugh. Now she\u2019ll be proving the doubters wrong onstage.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vividseats.com\/concerts\/billie-eilish-tickets.html?utm_source=rs&amp;utm_campaign=RSCon1&amp;utm_medium=affiliate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Billie Eilish<\/strong><\/a><br \/>May 31 \u2013 June 23, July 6 \u2013&nbsp;July 21<\/h4>\n<p>Billie Eilish\u2019s music is custom-made for intimacy: quiet, ASMR-nuanced tracks with light trap beats that she whisper-sings over. This summer, though, she\u2019ll be performing \u201cBad Guy\u201d and \u201cBury a Friend\u201d on some of North America\u2019s biggest stages, including Red Rocks and Chicago\u2019s United Center. Luckily for her, she\u2019s had time in recent months to find her sea legs, playing Coachella and large venues around Australia and the U.K. Most impressive is that she has done all this and hasn\u2019t even turned 18 yet.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/death-cab-for-cutie\/\" id=\"auto-tag_death-cab-for-cutie\" data-tag=\"death-cab-for-cutie\">Death Cab for Cutie<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jenny-lewis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jenny-lewis\" data-tag=\"jenny-lewis\">Jenny Lewis<\/a><br \/>June 2 \u2013 September 8th<\/h4>\n<p><strong>By this point, Death Cab for Cutie and Jenny Lewis are indie rock\u2013era survivors and both have experienced creative renaissances lately, so this tour will find them at the peak of their powers. Plus, there\u2019s always the hope that getting Ben Gibbard on the same stage as Lewis would lead to new music from their indie-pop-defining side project, the Postal Service. <a href=\"https:\/\/deathcabforcutie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Some dates<\/a> of Death Cab\u2019s tour feature Mitski and Car Seat Headrest, among others, as openers, and Jenny Lewis has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jennylewis.com\/tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a few dates of her own<\/a> planned before she comes back in the fall with the Watson Twins.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bonnaroo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bonnaroo\" data-tag=\"bonnaroo\">Bonnaroo<\/a><\/strong><br \/>June 13 \u2013 June 16<\/h4>\n<p>The original jam fest returns to its roots somewhat this year with three sets by Phish (two of which are on the same day) as well as a diverse set of headliners that include the Grand Ole Opry, Childish Gambino, Post Malone, the Lumineers and Cardi B. Whether you\u2019re checking out \u201cThis Tent,\u201d \u201cThat Tent\u201d or \u201cThe Other,\u201d as they\u2019re known, there will always be something happening until the wee hours of the morning, at which point it starts all over again.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-rolling-stones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-rolling-stones\" data-tag=\"the-rolling-stones\">The Rolling Stones<\/a><br \/>June 21 \u2013 August 31<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Mick Jagger has recovered from heart surgery and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/watch-mick-jaggers-post-heart-surgery-dance-moves-835705\/\">already dancing<\/a> like a man a third of his age, in preparation for the rescheduled dates of Stones\u2019 upcoming No Filter Tour. The band will be playing stadiums on the trek (\u201cIt\u2019s a thrill when we play stadiums \u2026 the energy is always amazing,\u201d Jagger said in a statement) and with no new album to promote, fans should expect to hear their biggest hits, a few deep cuts and the occasional blues rave-up, all sung with a rejuvenated spirit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chris-stapleton\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chris-stapleton\" data-tag=\"chris-stapleton\">Chris Stapleton<\/a><\/strong><br \/>July 9 \u2013 August 31<\/h4>\n<p>The magnetic country belter continues his long-running All-American Road Show Tour this summer, playing arenas around North America with support from previous Road Show openers Margo Price and Brent Cobb on select dates. If the gigs are anything like last year\u2019s installment, fans can expect a mix of hits like \u201cBroken Halos,\u201d his take on \u201cTennessee Whiskey\u201d and \u201cParachute,\u201d along with guest spots from his openers. The real star, however, will always be Stapleton\u2019s unique intensity.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/queen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_queen\" data-tag=\"queen\">Queen<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/adam-lambert\/\" id=\"auto-tag_adam-lambert\" data-tag=\"adam-lambert\">Adam Lambert<\/a><br \/>July 10 \u2013&nbsp; August 23<\/h4>\n<p><strong>After <em>Bohemian Rhapsody<\/em> won four Oscars, Queen and Adam Lambert will likely be singing \u201cWe Are the Champions\u201d with a little more gusto on this summer\u2019s arena tour. With a little extra cash from the movie, they\u2019re teasing a bigger \u201cvisual spectacle\u201d this year, but that probably just means more supersized imagery of a mustachioed Freddie Mercury \u2014&nbsp;and we\u2019re OK with that.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/iron-maiden\/\" id=\"auto-tag_iron-maiden\" data-tag=\"iron-maiden\">Iron Maiden<\/a><\/strong><br \/>July 18 \u2013&nbsp;September 25<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cEddie\u201d and the boys will be focusing on the classics and some more surprising fare for their summer jaunt this year. Set lists from the band\u2019s recent European leg of the tour found them performing little-played fan favorites like \u201cFlight of Icarus,\u201d as well as a couple of stellar tunes frontman Bruce Dickinson had shied away from like \u201cThe Clansman\u201d and \u201cSign of the Cross\u201d \u2014 which they\u2019d recorded with his late Nineties replacement. Add to that the larger-than-life spectacle of their corpse mascot decimating the stage and it\u2019ll be a metal odyssey for the ages.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/janet-jackson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_janet-jackson\" data-tag=\"janet-jackson\">Janet Jackson<\/a><br \/>July 24 \u2013&nbsp;August 10<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Ms. Jackson (if you\u2019re nasty) will be turning Las Vegas into Rhythm Nation this summer when she performs a career-spanning set as part of her Metamorphosis residency at the Park Theater at Park MGM. The recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee\u2019s spring gigs there found her singing around 37 songs a night for nearly two hours(!) with a heavy emphasis on her <em>Rhythm Nation 1814<\/em>, <em>Control<\/em> and <em>The Velvet Rope<\/em> hits, all while performing the sort of sexy chair dances Bob Fosse would have envied.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lollapalooza\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lollapalooza\" data-tag=\"lollapalooza\">Lollapalooza<\/a><\/strong><br \/>August 1 \u2013 August 4<\/h4>\n<p>The original alternative-music festival has grown to embrace all styles of music, and this year\u2019s installment of the four-day fest, set to take place in Chicago\u2019s Grant Park, has a surprisingly diverse lineup. The headliners include Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, Twenty One Pilots and the Strokes, and the rest of the bill features Perry Farrell, Kacey Musgraves, Mitski, Rosal\u00eda, Gary Clark, Jr., H.E.R., Lil Wayne and many others. If you don\u2019t like at least one artist on this bill, you\u2019re reading the wrong website.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/woodstock-50\/\" id=\"auto-tag_woodstock-50\" data-tag=\"woodstock-50\">Woodstock 50<\/a><\/strong><br \/>August 16 \u2013 August 18<\/h4>\n<p>Although this celebration of the mother of all festivals has been on shaky ground recently \u2014 its financier and a producer both severed ties with the event \u2014 it could still be a fun time if its organizers can pull it off. The lineup features a mix of Woodstock OGs (Santana, Dead &amp; Company, John Fogerty) and today\u2019s hit makers (Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus, Chance the Rapper); now all it needs is to get to the point that its organizers can focus on the \u201cpeace and love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Editorial lists are independently selected.
