Sleater-Kinney<\/a> brought a dark, gothic energy to their single \u201cHurry on Home\u201d on Wednesday\u2019s Tonight Show<\/a><\/em>. Dressed in all-black leathery outfits, the band churned through the art-punk track, with Carrie Brownstein breaking out in a riotous guitar solo midway through.<\/p>\n

The influence of Annie Clark<\/a> (aka St. Vincent<\/a>) was evident throughout the performance \u2014 an appropriate reference point, as she produced the trio\u2019s upcoming ninth LP, The Center Won\u2019t Hold<\/em>, out August 16th. In addition to \u201cHurry on Home,\u201d which received the lyric video treatment<\/a> from Miranda July, Sleater-Kinney recently issued another track<\/a> from the album, \u201cThe Future Is Here.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement about the record, which follows 2015\u2019s No Cities to Love<\/em>, the trio detailed the lyrical themes that informed the new songs. \u201cWe\u2019re always mixing the personal and the political but on this record, despite obviously thinking so much about politics, we were really thinking about the person \u2014 ourselves or versions of ourselves or iterations of depression or loneliness \u2014 in the middle of the chaos,\u201d Brownstein said. Guitarist Corin Tucker added, \u201c[The LP] drops you into the world of catastrophe that touches on the election. And almost like a mission statement, at the end of that song, it\u2019s like the band is finding its way out of that space by becoming a rock band.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band will promote The Center Won\u2019t Hold<\/em> on a North American fall tour<\/a> that launches October 9th in Spokane, Washington and runs through November 23rd in Seattle, Washington.<\/p>\n
