{"id":487288,"date":"2019-06-21T09:58:47","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T15:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=851003"},"modified":"2019-06-21T09:58:47","modified_gmt":"2019-06-21T15:58:47","slug":"facebook-reverses-ban-on-led-zeppelins-houses-of-the-holy-cover-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/facebook-reverses-ban-on-led-zeppelins-houses-of-the-holy-cover-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook Reverses Ban on Led Zeppelin\u2019s \u2018Houses of the Holy\u2019 Cover Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/housesh.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/facebook\/\" id=\"auto-tag_facebook\" data-tag=\"facebook\">Facebook<\/a> has reversed its decision that saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/led-zeppelin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_led-zeppelin\" data-tag=\"led-zeppelin\">Led Zeppelin<\/a>\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/houses-of-the-holy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_houses-of-the-holy\" data-tag=\"houses-of-the-holy\">Houses of the Holy<\/a><\/em> album cover temporarily banned from the social network.<\/p>\n<p>The ban of the iconic and controversial artwork, conceived by Hipgnosis\u2019 Aubrey Powell and featuring naked children scaling a mountain, began earlier this week when music website <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/led-zeppelin-houses-of-the-holy-facebook-ban\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a> posted the <em>Houses of the Holy<\/em> cover art in a Facebook post, the fifth time the site had posted that album cover. On this occasion, however, the site received a takedown notice from Facebook following user complaints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince children as young as 13 years old use Instagram\/Facebook and the app is available in third-party app stores, there are rules regarding nudity and solicitation that we have to follow,\u201d Facebook\u2019s Jessica Oda wrote to Ultimate Classic Rock. \u201cWe place limitations on the display of this content to limit exposure of sensitive content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Facebook added, \u201cNudity can be shared for a variety of reasons, including as a form of protest, to raise awareness about a cause, or for educational or medical reasons. We default to removing sexual images to prevent non-consensual or underage content from being shared.\u201d Ultimate Classic Rock eventually took down their Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p>However, as other Facebook users noted, a blanket ban on the <em>Houses of the Holy<\/em> artwork spread throughout the social network; on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/facebook-stop-facebook-from-censoring-led-zeppelin-s-iconic-houses-of-the-holy-album-cover-art\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a Change.org page<\/a> criticizing the Facebook ban, one user claimed that a Led Zeppelin-posted YouTube video he posted on his private account that featured the <em>Houses of the Holy<\/em> artwork was flagged and taken down.<\/p>\n<p>Following the outcry from the <em>Houses of the Holy<\/em> ban, Facebook reversed its stance and decided to allow the 1975 artwork.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communitystandards\/child_nudity_sexual_exploitation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">community standards<\/a>&nbsp;explain, we don\u2019t allow nude images of children on Facebook,\u201d a Facebook spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/led-zeppelin-facebook-reverses-ban\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">told UCR<\/a>. \u201cBut we know this a culturally significant image.
