{"id":487366,"date":"2019-06-24T11:46:17","date_gmt":"2019-06-24T17:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=850718"},"modified":"2019-06-24T11:46:17","modified_gmt":"2019-06-24T17:46:17","slug":"the-first-time-halsey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/the-first-time-halsey\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Time: Halsey"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Halsey_TFT.00_03_41_09.Still008.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/halsey-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_halsey-2\" data-tag=\"halsey-2\">Halsey<\/a> describes the evolution of her artistry, the first time she dyed her hair and how she played Brand New and Taking Back Sunday records to death in the latest installment of \u201cThe First Time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The singer traces her stage name back to 2015, when she was returning home from an Ed Sheeran concert and named herself after her stop off the L train. \u201cI\u2019d been living just off the Halsey stop in Brooklyn and the word had always had an important meeting to me, but I couldn\u2019t figure out why,\u201d she says. \u201cUntil one day I realized that Halsey and my real name Ashley are comprised of all the same letters, so it\u2019s an anagram.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Halsey fondly cites <em>Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/em> as the first film she ever loved.&nbsp;\u201cI basically built my whole personality off of Clementine,\u201d she says of Kate Winslet\u2019s character in the 2004 film. \u201cIt was really exciting for me to see a woman on film who was proud and liberated in her own weirdness and in her own non-polite, non-political, non-conformative, inconvenient self.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had really relaxed parents,\u201d Halsey prefaces as she mentions coming home from middle school with a box of hair dye. The 24-year-old artist also states that she got her first tattoo at the age of fifteen\u2014only after begging her mother. \u201cShe said, \u2018You can\u2019t do that,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Why not?
