Beck<\/a> strips down his electro-folk single \u201cSaw Lightning\u201d<\/a> to a bluesy howl in a new \u201cFreestyle\u201d version.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a grainy black-and-white video, the singer-songwriter alternates between a belted vocal and distorted harmonica \u2014 accompanied only by his stomping feet. He speeds up and slows down at random, briefly slipping into a high falsetto.<\/span><\/p>\n

The original \u201cSaw Lightning\u201d appears on Beck\u2019s upcoming 14th LP, Hyperspace<\/em>, which Capitol Records notes is due out \u201csometime in the future.\u201d Pharrell Williams produced the song, contributing \u201cdrums, keyboards and mumbles\u201d to the sleek cut.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hyperspace<\/em> will follow Beck\u2019s 2017 record, Colors<\/em><\/a>, which won Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Since issuing that LP, he\u2019s covered Colourbox\u2019s \u201cTarantula<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d for the Roma<\/em> soundtrack, co-produced Jenny Lewis\u2019 On the Line<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, collaborated with Cage the Elephant on the band\u2019s \u201cNight Running<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d and teamed with the Bird and the Bee to cover Van Halen\u2019s \u201cHot for Teacher.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Beck will finish out the summer on a co-headlining North American tour with Cage the Elephant<\/a>. Spoon will join as special guests on the 30-date trek, which kicks off July 11th in Ridgefield, Washington and wraps August 30th in West Palm Beach, Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n
