In a statement, the singer-songwriter described the set \u2014 which he performed, produced and mixed in full \u2014 as \u201csomewhat of an epilogue\u201d to his fourth and most recent LP, 2018\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-blood-oranges-haunted-sexy-negro-swan-716115\/\"><em>Negro Swan<\/em><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hynes also detailed his approach of following a full-fledged album with a \u201cmixtape.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s1\">I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street or no one,\u201d he said. \u201cUsually this material is made directly after the album I\u2019ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I\u2019ve made before. This time\u2026I decided to release it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s1\">I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I\u2019ve released but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m older now, though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying\u2026 so here you go, mates.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hynes recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/blood-orange-new-songs-coren-dark-handsome-something-to-do-823313\/\">debuted two new Blood Orange songs<\/a>, \u201cSomething to Do\u201d and \u201cDark &amp; Handsome,\u201d on <em>The Late Late Show<\/em>.
