Beyonc\u00e9 has unveiled new song \u201cSpirit,\u201d which will appear on her forthcoming album, The Lion King: the Gift<\/em> as well as on the soundtrack and in the film for the live-action remake of The Lion King<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpirit\u201d opens with resonant voices trading call and responses. Over rich piano, orchestral and choir-tipped choruses, Beyonc\u00e9 sings her uplifting verses about resilience. \u201cRise up to the light in the sky, yeah,\u201d she sings. \u201cWatch the light lift your heart up\/Burn your flame through the night.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the Beyonc\u00e9-executive produced and curated The Gift<\/em>, the singer said the album features some of her favorite artists. \u201cThis is sonic cinema,\u201d Beyonc\u00e9 said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cThis is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn\u2019t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, hip-hop and Afro Beat.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline,\u201d she continued. \u201cEach song was written to reflect the film\u2019s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyonc\u00e9 voices lioness Nala<\/a> and Donald Glover portrays the older Simba in the remake of the 1994 Disney animated film. The pair also teamed for a rendition of Elton John\/Tim Rice\u2019s \u201cCan You Feel the Love Tonight<\/a>,\u201d which appears on the film\u2019s soundtrack.<\/p>\n

The Lion King: the Gift<\/em> will be released on July 19th, while The Lion King<\/em> original motion picture soundtrack arrives on July 11th. The Lion King<\/em> hits theaters on July 19th.<\/p>\n
