Neil Young<\/a>\u2019s summer European tour with Promise of the Real has been packed with rarities like \u201cThrow Your Hatred Down,\u201d \u201cPiece of Crap,\u201d \u201cOver and Over,\u201d \u201cDanger Bird\u201d and \u201cChange Your Mind,\u201d but on Tuesday night at the Sportpaleis in Antwerpen, Belgium, he topped them all by breaking out the title track to his 1974 masterpiece On The Beach<\/em>. The performance marked the first time Young has played the melancholy song since 2003 and only the third time since 1975, which was also the last time he played an electric rendition of the song.<\/p>\n

The tour wraps up this weekend with two co-headlining shows with Bob Dylan at London\u2019s Hyde Park and Kilkenny, Ireland\u2019s Nowlan Park. Young\u2019s only show after that is Farm Aid in East Troy, Wisconsin on September 21st,<\/a> but he recently recorded a new Crazy Horse album provisionally titled Pink Moon<\/em> and he\u2019s said they\u2019ll support it with an arena tour later this year. According to a response to a fan letter on the Neil Young Archives<\/a>, several shows have already been booked, including a stop at New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe we have a great Crazy Horse album,\u201d Young wrote shortly after he finished recording the album, \u201cone to stand alongside Everybody Knows This is Nowhere<\/em>, Rust Never Sleeps<\/em>, Sleeps with Angels<\/em>, Psychedelic Pill<\/em> and all the others.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first Crazy Horse album since guitarist Frank \u201cPoncho\u201d Sampedro stepped away from the group after a 43-year stint and was replaced by Nils Lofgren. \u201cNils played all over After the Gold Rush<\/em> and he played all over those early albums that I did,\u201d Young told Rolling Stone<\/em> earlier this year.<\/a> \u201cIt just gives me a whole wealth of material to draw from when I have the original players.\u201d<\/p>\n

About a week before the European tour began, Young\u2019s longtime manager Elliot Roberts died.<\/a> \u201cElliot never thought of himself, always someone else,\u201d Young wrote shortly after he died. \u201cHe was my best friend in the world for so many years, and he was so happy for me and the life I had found, with Daryl, my wonderful wife and soul sharer.\u201d<\/p>\n
