{"id":487887,"date":"2019-07-11T06:56:19","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T12:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=857765"},"modified":"2019-07-11T06:56:19","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T12:56:19","slug":"bon-iver-preview-new-album-i-i-with-two-new-songs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/bon-iver-preview-new-album-i-i-with-two-new-songs\/","title":{"rendered":"Bon Iver Preview New Album \u2018i, i,\u2019 With Two New Songs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/BonIver_Graham_Tolbert__Crystal_Quinn.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bon-iver\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bon-iver\" data-tag=\"bon-iver\">Bon Iver<\/a> shared two new songs, \u201cFaith\u201d and \u201cJelmore,\u201d both of which will appear on the group\u2019s upcoming album, <em>i, i<\/em>, out August 30th via Jagjaguwar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The two tracks vary in approach but both hit upon that ethereal, infinite feeling that\u2019s become a hallmark of Bon Iver\u2019s music over the past few years. \u201cFaith\u201d opens with frontman Justin Vernon lacing his soft croon over a lush mix of guitars and synthesizers, but the song veers slightly off course for a moment before settling into a grand stomp as Vernon sings, \u201cTime and again (got all that I need)\/Time to be brave\/Content to the phrases that at dawn we ain\u2019t mazes\/Just some kind of pages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cJelmore\u201d is a decidedly stranger composition of herky-jerky synths and the occasional flutter of a saxophone, while Vernon\u2019s layered vocals serve as the glue that holds the song together.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VnDDghFYEGU?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFaith\u201d and \u201cJelmore\u201d follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/hear-bon-iver-reveal-two-new-tracks-at-all-points-east-843527\/\">previously-released<\/a> <em>i, i<\/em> tracks \u201cHey Ma\u201d and \u201cU (Man Like),\u201d which arrived in June. <em>I, i<\/em> marks Bon Iver\u2019s fourth album and follows their 2016 effort, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-bon-ivers-22-a-million-brings-futurism-to-justin-vernons-cabin-128519\/\"><em>22, A Million<\/em><\/a>. In a statement, Vernon said of the new LP, \u201cIt feels very much like the most adult record, the most complete. It feels like when you get through all this life, when the sun starts to set, and what happens is you start gaining perspective. And then you can put that perspective into more honest, generous work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Bon Iver recorded <em>i, i<\/em> at Sonic Ranch in West Texas and April Base in Wisconsin. The sessions found Vernon working with Sean Carey, Andrew Fitzpatrick, Mike Lewis, Matt McCaughan, Rob Moose and Jennifer Wasner.
