Cardi B<\/a> shot down Jermaine Dupri\u2019s assessment that contemporary female rappers are all rapping about the same thing \u2014 in his case, stripping and dancing \u2014 in a video posted to Twitter<\/a> Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Cardi\u2019s comments came after Dupri gave an interview with People<\/em><\/a> where he spoke about breaking ground with Da Brat in the Nineties, but demurred when asked to name his favorite female MCs in 2019. \u201cThe reason why I can\u2019t say is because I feel like they\u2019re all rapping about the same thing,\u201d Dupri said. \u201cIt\u2019s like strippers rapping and as far as rap goes, I\u2019m not getting who\u2019s the best rapper. I\u2019m getting like, \u2018Ok, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you<\/em> got a story about you dancing in the club.\u2019 Who\u2019s going to be the rapper?\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked when what he would like to see instead, Dupri said, \u201cAt some point, somebody\u2019s gonna have to break out of that mold and talk about other things.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her response, Cardi B linked Dupri\u2019s comments with those of other critics who have complained, as she put it, that \u201cfemale rappers only talk about they pussy and shit.\u201d Cardi then offered the expertly glib retort: \u201cFirst of all, I rap about my pussy because she my best friend. And second of all, it\u2019s because it seems like that\u2019s what people want to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardi B acknowledged that after \u201cBe Careful,\u201d<\/a> her Invasion of Privacy<\/em><\/a> single about infidelity, received a tepid and confused response, she figured people just weren\u2019t interested in hearing that kind of song. While Cardi suggested she didn\u2019t mind catering to her audience at times, she also put the onus on those critics to seek out and acknowledge the myriad female rappers who are writing about other topics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of female rappers that be rapping they ass off and don\u2019t be talking about they pussy and don\u2019t be talking about getting down and dirty, and y\u2019all don\u2019t be supporting them! Y\u2019all don\u2019t be supporting them and they be mad dope! These bloggers don\u2019t support them, they don\u2019t give them the recognition, so don\u2019t blame that shit on us, when y\u2019all not the ones that\u2019s supporting them.\u201d<\/p>\n
