The Black Keys<\/a> lay out pompous career goals, flaunt expensive guitars and teach fans how to achieve a \u201csultry\u201d bongo tone in their hilarious Funny or Die trailer for a fake musical \u201cMasterCourse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The clip opens with singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach musing on the more practical rewards of his creative process. \u201cEvery song on a record is trying to accomplish something,\u201d he says, gently plucking an acoustic guitar. \u201cThat song, in particular, was trying to trying to get me a new pool.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, the frontman instructs students to take inspiration from their surroundings: \u201cI wrote that song while eating caviar with Michael Jordan in Paris,\u201d he says, adding with a grin that the basketball legend \u201ccheats at Blackjack.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Drummer Patrick Carney adopts a quirkier, more self-deprecating persona in the trailer. \u201cI come from a long line of drummers,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not talking about the Nick Cannon Drumline<\/em>, although I wish I came from that line too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Elsewhere, he teases rhythmic mysteries: \u201cA very interesting time signature is 4\/7 \u2013\u2013 I couldn\u2019t tell you much about it beyond that, but it is very interesting.\u201d And he reveals a rarely spoken truth of drumming: \u201cIt means a lot to be a drummer. One of the things it means is that you\u2019re not a good guitar player \u2013\u2013 or as good as someone else that you know who\u2019s in your band.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The video hypes the band\u2019s recently issued ninth LP, \u201cLet\u2019s Rock.\u201d<\/em><\/a> The duo will promote the album on a North American tour<\/a> with Modest Mouse that launches September 21st at the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.<\/span><\/p>\n
