The musician has spent the past year writing a stage musical adaptation of the 1946 Frank Capra film <em>It\u2019s A Wonderful Life<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/07\/17\/paul-mccartney-is-writing-an-its-a-wonderful-life-musical\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">according to the <em>New York Post<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McCartney has teamed up with writer Lee Hall, the screenwriter behind <em>Billy Elliot<\/em> and <em>Rocketman<\/em>, and producer Bill Kenwright. Hall previously worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/elton-john\/\" id=\"auto-tag_elton-john\" data-tag=\"elton-john\">Elton John<\/a> on the West End adaptation of \u201cBilly Elliot: The Musical,\u201d which opened in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWriting a musical is not something that had ever really appealed to me,\u201d McCartney said in a statement. \u201cBut Bill and I met up with Lee Hall and had a chat and I found myself thinking this could be interesting and fun. <em>It\u2019s A Wonderful Life<\/em>&nbsp;is a universal story we can all relate to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kenwright originally asked Capra for the stage rights to the film years ago, according to the <em>Post<\/em>, but the filmmaker said no. After the producer was offered the rights by Paramount, he reached out to McCartney in 2016 and asked if he would be interested in writing the music. \u201cOur hero was a musical theater writer,\u201d Kenwright said of McCartney after hearing the first song.<\/p>\n<p>The production is set to premiere in the U.K. in late 2020 with plans for a later move to Broadway, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2019\/music\/news\/paul-mccartney-its-a-wonderful-life-musical-1203271389\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to <em>Variety<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McCartney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/paul-mccartney-ringo-starr-joe-walsh-los-angeles-concert-858717\/\">recently reunited<\/a> with Ringo Starr during a performance at Los Angeles\u2019 Dodger Stadium. The pair collaborated on two Beatles classics, \u201cSgt.
