Duff McKagan<\/a> strums an acoustic guitar and sings about striving for the truth in front of a rapt audience in the new video for \u201cDon\u2019t Look Behind You,\u201d the closing track on the Guns N\u2019 Roses bassist\u2019s recent solo album, Tenderness<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

McKagan filmed the clip at a sold-out show at Los Angeles\u2019 El Rey Theater, where he was joined on stage by producer Shooter Jennings\u2019 backing band. As the song goes on, McKagan seems to get lost in the lilting saxophone solo, shaking his head to the music. \u201cNever look back, it will blind you,\u201d he sings. \u201cIt\u2019s getting better soon, the light is coming through.\u201d It all builds to a soulful, almost hypnotic ending.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, McKagan explained to Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> that Tenderness<\/em> began as a series of essays about social issues and how he saw the state of the world. But he ultimately decided it would make the most sense to turn them into songs. \u201cDo I need to put more noise out there? No,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m playing in a big fucking rock band, the best rock band in the world, right? I didn\u2019t need to make a record at all, but I chose to. I want to do something that\u2019s healing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Around the album\u2019s release last May, McKagan mounted a solo tour of North America<\/a>, playing songs from Tenderness<\/em> alongside some Guns N\u2019 Roses deep cuts. This fall, he\u2019ll take the tour to Europe, and after that, he and the rest of Guns N\u2019 Roses will kick off a new string of dates on their newly extended Not in This Lifetime tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n
