The company asserts its \u201cuser-centric payment system\u201d (UCPS) \u201cwould make the industry fairer for artists all over the world,\u201d according to a statement.<\/p>\n<p>To inform users about the new approach it hopes to roll out, Deezer has created a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deezer.com\/ucps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">new website<\/a>, which details how user-centric royalties are distributed differently than the widely-used market-share based way. Essentially, the UCPS approach would make payments based on what users are actually listening to via their streams. Deezer\u2019s premium subscribers will have access to a tool that reveals exactly how much of their subscription revenues would go to each artist they\u2019ve streamed. The company hopes to launch its UCPS pilot program in France in early 2020, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/8529652\/deezer-user-centric-payments-royalties-artists-pilot-france\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>Billboard<\/em><\/a>, with hopes to activate it in other markets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStreaming has been the main innovation driver in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/music-industry\/\" id=\"auto-tag_music-industry\" data-tag=\"music-industry\">music industry<\/a> for many years now. Digital technologies and data make it easier than ever to make sure that all artists and content creations have a fair playing field,\u201d Deezer Chief Content and Strategy Officer Alexander Holland said in a statement. \u201cA user-centric approach is the next logical step and would mean that fans directly support the acts they love.
