It\u2019s been an extremely quiet year for U2<\/a>, but that will change on November 8th when they resume their Joshua Tree<\/em> tour at Mt. Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. The tour will then head to Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines before wrapping up December 15th at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, India.<\/p>\n

The final show will mark the band\u2019s first-ever performance in India. \u201cWe have been around the world with The Joshua Tree<\/em> and we can\u2019t think of a better place to celebrate the end of this tour,\u201d the Edge said in a statement. \u201cMumbai, India, we\u2019re coming for you, I hope you\u2019re ready!\u201d<\/p>\n

This is, of course, not the first time that U2 have taken The Joshua Tree<\/em> on the road. The first time took place in 1987 shortly after the album came out, and thanks to massive radio hits like \u201cWith or Without You,\u201d \u201cWhere The Streets Have No Name,\u201d and \u201cI Still Haven\u2019t Found What I\u2019m Looking For,\u201d they were able to headline stadiums in some markets for the first time in their career. The American leg of the tour was documented in the concert film Rattle and Hum<\/em>, but here\u2019s incredible footage of them playing \u201cRunning to Stand Still\u201d at a Paris show on July 4th, 1987.<\/p>\n

The hits from The Joshua Tree<\/em> stayed in U2\u2019s set list pretty consistently over the years, but in 2017 they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the album by playing it straight through at stadiums in North America, Europe, and South America. It was the first time they\u2019d played songs like \u201cExit,\u201d \u201cTrip Through Your Wires,\u201d and \u201cIn God\u2019s Country\u201d in many years, and the first time they\u2019d done \u201cRed Hill Mining Town\u201d ever.<\/p>\n

The tour was a tremendous success, and when U2 hit the road they following year to promote Songs of Experience<\/em> they didn\u2019t do a single song from The Joshua Tree<\/em> at any point. \u201cWe were all excited about the idea of not delving back to Joshua Tree,<\/em>\u201d U2 bassist Adam Clayton told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> at the time. \u201cThat\u2019s because Joshua Tree<\/em> has cast such a big shadow over everything we\u2019ve done. We felt that by doing that tour that we, to an extent, had laid that to rest for the moment. There will be another time to come back to that material [though].\u201d<\/p>\n

That time has come, though it\u2019s hard to imagine them doing it again after this last show in India. Next year, however, is the 30th anniversary of Achtung Baby<\/em>. We asked Bono in 2017 whether a Zoo TV<\/em> 2021 tour was possible and he didn\u2019t completely dismiss the idea. \u201cI haven\u2019t thought about it,\u201d he said,<\/a> \u201cbut then again if you\u2019d asked me five years ago about a Joshua Tree<\/em> one I would have laughed at you. It would have to be called Zoo.Com<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
