Between the song\u2019s whistled hooks and sleek synths, a live drummer pounded out tumbling tom fills and an electric guitarist played heavy power chords and dramatic leads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cPanini\u201d appears on Lil Nas X\u2019s June-issued debut EP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/lil-nas-x-ep-7-847917\/\"><em>7<\/em><\/a> and marks his second single, following his breakout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/rs-charts-top-100-lil-nas-x-shawn-mendes-drake-847955\/\">Number One<\/a> hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/lil-nas-x-old-town-road-810844\/\">\u201cOld Town Road.\u201d<\/a> Lil Nas X recently recruited rapper DaBaby for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/dababy-remix-lil-nas-x-panini-883868\/\">\u201cPanini\u201d remix<\/a>, which was paired with an animated video.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">After releasing \u201cPanini,\u201d Lil Nas X clarified on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LilNasX\/status\/1141746171607576576\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> that the song <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lil-nas-x-panini-nirvana-nevermind-old-town-road-850577\/\">interpolates parts of Nirvana\u2019s grunge anthem \u201cIn Bloom.\u201d<\/a> During an interview with Beats 1\u2019s Zane Lowe, he noted that writing the song introduced him to the band\u2019s 1991 LP, <em>Nevermind<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cA lot of songs will even come to me [when] I\u2019m sleeping or something,\u201d he told Lowe. \u201cLike a melody. And I\u2019m like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s fly.\u2019 But the craziest thing about \u2018Panini\u2019 is it introduced me to Nirvana\u2019s album&nbsp;<em>Nevermind<\/em>.
