Nas<\/a> collapses history and culture in the jarring new video for \u201cWar Against Love,\u201d a track off his new rarities compilation, The Lost Tapes 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Directed by Jason Goldwatch, the clip is a compelling visual collage that features Nas performing the track amidst an array of juxtapositions, such as side-by-side videos of mushroom clouds and blooming flowers, and a photo of Olympic track star Wilma Rudolph crossing the finish line next to a Civil Rights-era snapshot of police chasing two black teenagers (the same one famously used on the cover<\/a> of the Roots Things Fall Apart<\/em>). The video also features some stranger choices, like an illustration of Stevie Wonder next to the infamous police sketch of the unabomber Ted Kaczynski, and pictures of President Donald Trump <\/span>and Eddie Murphy\u2019s SNL<\/em> character Buckwheat both making \u201cOK signs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith peaceful displays of humankind\u2019s achievements and nature\u2019s beauty paired with difficult scenes of man-made destruction, the message is clear; it is our duty to learn from humanity\u2019s fraught history and move forward in the name of love,\u201d read a statement in the YouTube description for the \u201cWar Against Love\u201d video.<\/p>\n

Nas released The Lost Tapes 2<\/em> in July<\/a> via Mass Appeal and Def Jam. The album arrived 17 years after the highly acclaimed first installment, which collected unreleased tracks from Nas\u2019 1999 album I Am\u2026 <\/em><\/a>and 2001\u2019s Stillmatic<\/em><\/a>. The new record boasts songs made during the sessions for 2006\u2019s Hip-Hop is Dead<\/em><\/a>, 2008\u2019s Untitled<\/em><\/a>, 2012\u2019s Life Is Good<\/em><\/a> and 2018\u2019s Nasir<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
