Low Cut Connie\u2019s Adam Weiner came up playing in dive bars \u2014 Saturday night hangout spots full of neighborhood folks \u201cgetting down on funky records and good vibes,\u201d he tells Rolling Stone<\/em>. And that\u2019s the feeling he\u2019s aiming to emulate with his new syndicated radio show, The Connie Club<\/em>. The show launches on October 5th, airing across the country on stations like WXPN and the Current.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up listening to these crazy freewheeling FM radio shows in Philly and New Jersey,\u201d Weiner says. \u201cI love those shows where people get up and sing karaoke live on the radio and do shout-outs. Local flavor to the max.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show will feature Weiner spinning vinyl live, playing his piano (nicknamed \u201cShondra\u201d), and interviewing the likes of Big Freedia, Caroline Rose and Cait O\u2019Riordan from the Pogues. Guests will also sing acoustic, dive-bar version of their songs \u2014 accompanied by Weiner and Shondra.<\/p>\n

The Connie Club<\/em> initially launched in 2018 via Minnesota Public Radio\u2019s The Current, but, come October, will now be available on stations such as Radio Woodstock, WXPN, WFPK, WYEP and Colorado Indie 102.3. It will also be streaming on The Current\u2019s website<\/a>. \u201cSo here we are with a nationally syndicated weird little piece of radio that people are gonna be grooving on around the country,\u201d Weiner says.<\/p>\n

The Philly band has earned its share of famous fans since they released fifth studio album, Dirty Pictures (Part 2),<\/em> in 2018, including Bruce Springsteen and Elton John. \u201c[Elton John] said that I remind him of Little Richard and the piano players that he idolized when he was young,\u201d Weiner told Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> backstage at Springsteen\u2019s run of Broadway shows earlier this year. \u201cI said, \u2018I idolize those guys too \u2014 but you\u2019re my other guy.\u2019 That\u2019s my constellation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Weiner\u2019s radio show, the band kicks off the Azz Across America tour with Big Freedia at the end of October.<\/p>\n
