The musician took to Facebook on Tuesday to describe what he claims are rules of \u201chistoric injustice\u201d that are blocking the recognition of his contributions to the LPs.<\/p>\n<p>In Fripp\u2019s post, he asserted that he was a \u201cFeatured Player\u201d on the albums in question. \u201cThis accreditation as a Featured Player is supported by Brian Eno, Tony Visconti, David Bowie himself (although the terminology was not then in use), and the court of Public Opinion over four decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/robert-fripp-interview-king-crimson-tour-david-bowie-kanye-west-820783\/\">interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> earlier this year, Fripp discussed his work with Bowie and Eno on the albums. \u201cWith both of them, it was the same,\u201d he said of working with the pair. \u201c\u2018Here is a context. Robert, please go for it,\u2019 with play and lots of laughter. Lots of fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I would ask for from David would simply be chords,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo that I wouldn\u2019t have to sit down and write out a chart for an hour, or whatever, so I could go in fresh. \u2018Here is the map for the terrain \u2014 go.\u2019 And it was wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, in his Facebook post, Fripp claims that Bowie\u2019s estate has not acknowledged his role as a \u201cFeatured Player\u201d due to PPL rules, which he explained do not recognize his \u201cFeatured Performer Status.\u201d PPL is a UK music licensing company that has been established since 1934. In his post, Fripp argued that \u201cRules are not God-given laws to maintain the universe: they are created by people to organize and facilitate interactions in fair and equitable fashion; which in the nature of things, can never actually be foretold.\u201d He further proposed that the rules should take \u201cexceptional\/novel situations into account\u201d and that the organization should consider changing the rules \u201cto match what is right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representatives for the Bowie estate declined to comment and reps for PPL, Eno and Visconti did not immediately respond to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Fripp went on to take the music industry to task. \u201cFifty-two years of direct, hands-on experience suggests to me that the majority of players who operate the system, operate the system to serve their own interests,\u201d the musician stated. \u201cThere are a small number of players whose aim is ethical action in business; not directing the industry to promote their own personal interests; these assertions supported by decades of documentation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/king-crimson-robert-fripp-david-bowie-estate-dispute-heroes-scary-monsters-890139\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert Fripp, King Crimson\u2019s co-founder and guitarist, said he is involved in a dispute with the David Bowie\u2019s estate over being properly credited for his contributions to the late artist\u2019s 1977 Heroes and 1980 Scary Monsters albums.
