No further details regarding his illness have been disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital,\u201d the family\u2019s statement reads. \u201cPlease keep him in your prayers tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.0526315789474\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">The Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital. In 2016, the drummer underwent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/cream-drummer-ginger-baker-recovering-from-heart-surgery-231194\/\">open heart surgery<\/a>. Earlier that same year he was forced to cancel a tour with his band Air Force after being diagnosed with \u201cserious heart problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/qa-ginger-baker-on-why-the-rolling-stones-are-not-good-musicians-86521\/\">told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> that his health was \u201cnot good\u201d and that performing left him exhausted. \u201cI\u2019ve got degenerative osteoarthritis, which is extremely painful and I\u2019m on a regiment with a health service pain management control,\u201d he said. \u201cApart from that I\u2019ve got COPD from smoking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Named Number Three on <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/100-greatest-drummers-of-all-time-77933\/ginger-baker-145671\/\">100 Greatest Drummers of All Time<\/a>,\u201d the English drummer cofounded Cream in 1966 with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce and released four albums before breaking up in 1968. He went on to form the short-lived Blind Faith with Clapton, Steve Winwood and Ric Grech before launching his band Air Force in 1970. Baker has also released numerous solo albums, including his most recent <em>Why?<\/em> in 2014.
