Jeff Lynne<\/a> will release the 14th Electric Light Orchestra<\/a> album, From Out of Nowhere<\/em>, on November 1st via Columbia Records. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee previewed the LP \u2014 the second billed under the moniker \u201cJeff Lynne\u2019s ELO,\u201d following 2015\u2019s Alone in the Universe<\/em><\/a> \u2014 with the dreamy title track.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom Out of Nowhere\u201d conjures vintage ELO, minus the symphonic edge of the band\u2019s layered keyboards and strings. \u201cLet me go, let me fly to a place that I love,\u201d Lynne croons over a jangling, descending guitar progression and steady, choppy drums. \u201cLet me fly away and start anew.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

ELO recently concluded their second North American tour since 1981<\/a>, featuring Dhani Harrison as opener<\/a>. Lynne, the band\u2019s singer-songwriter, performed virtually every instrument on the new record \u2014 just as he did on Alone in the Universe<\/em>. According to the Amazon pre-order<\/a>, he played \u201cnearly every note of the music on guitars, bass, piano, drums, keyboards and vibes, as well as singing all of the lead and layered harmony vocals,\u201d with engineer Steve Jay \u201c[adding] some percussion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom Out of Nowhere<\/em> \u2013 that\u2019s exactly where it came from,\u201d Lynne said in a statement. \u201cThat\u2019s the first one I wrote for this album, and it\u2019s kind of like that.\u201d He noted that he was aiming to spread optimism with both the song and album: \u201cEverybody\u2019s got to have a bit of hope.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
