Broken Bells<\/a>, the duo of the Shins\u2019 James Mercer<\/a> and producer Danger Mouse<\/a>, ponder the bleakness of modern times on their new song \u201cGood Luck.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe face of evil\u2019s on the news tonight\/We see the darkness over light,\u201d Mercer sings over a dusty bass groove and loping drums. \u201cBut have we ever really lived in better times?\u201d The track gradually intensifies with wordless vocal hooks and psychedelic fuzz guitar, climaxing with a percussive coda.  <\/span><\/p>\n

The track is available to purchase and stream on all digital platforms through Danger Mouse\u2019s 30th Century Records via AWAL.<\/span> Upon issuing the single, the duo also revealed that they\u2019ve begun studio sessions for their as-yet-untitled third LP, which follows a standalone 2018 song \u201cShelter,\u201d<\/a> two full-length albums (2010\u2019s<\/span> Broken Bells<\/em><\/span><\/a> and 2014\u2019s After the Disco<\/em><\/a>) and 2011 EP, Meyrin Fields<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs with \u2018Shelter,\u2019 we wanted to release \u2018Good Luck\u2019 while it felt timely and reflective of specific discussions between the two of us, questioning the state of things, as we do,\u201d Mercer and Danger Mouse said in a joint statement. \u201cBoth of us are constantly working on music at any given time, yet we always drift back to one another as Broken Bells. When it happens naturally, it happens\u2014and right now it\u2019s happened in the form of writing and recording sessions for the third Broken Bells album.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Both musicians have focused on other projects following After the Disco<\/em>: Mercer released his fifth album with the Shins, Heartworms<\/em><\/a>; Danger Mouse produced a handful of albums (including Parquet Court\u2019s 2018 record, Wide Awake!<\/em><\/a>) and teamed with Karen O for the recent collaborative LP, Lux Prima<\/em><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
