Fiona Apple<\/a> is coming to collect. In a video, the singer addresses Lil Nas X<\/a> sampling her 2012 song, \u201cEvery Single Night\u201d<\/a> on his (pre-\u201cOld Town Road\u201d) song \u201cKim Jong.\u201d<\/a> \u201cOne thing that the lovely Rachel Handler didn\u2019t mention that I did say in the interview which I would just like to say now is that Lil Nas X you\u2019re probably really great, but you used my song \u2018Every Single Night,\u2019 too,\u201d Fiona said, referencing a recent interview with the New York<\/em> Magazine writer. \u201cYou sampled that song, too, in a song called \u2018Kim Jong Un,\u2019 I think. And, um, hey, where\u2019s my money, you cute little guy? Where\u2019s my money?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKim Jong\u201d is no longer available on paid streaming services \u2014 Lil Nas X scrubbed much of his early efforts after getting signed to Columbia during the rise of \u201cOld Town Road\u201d \u2014 but appeared on a mixtape, Nasarati<\/em>. Lil Nas X has a history of sampling on his most popular tracks and not necessarily knowing where the influence came from. On \u201cPanini,\u201d he interpolated Nirvana\u2019s \u201cIn Bloom,\u201d<\/a> but admitted during an interview with Zane Lowe that he never listened to Nevermind<\/em>. \u201cThe craziest thing about \u2018Panini\u2019 is it introduced me to Nirvana\u2019s album Nevermind<\/em>,\u201d he revealed. \u201cI always seen the cover, but I never actually listened to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOld Town Road\u201d is also built on a sample of Nine Inch Nails\u2019 \u201c34 Ghosts IV,\u201d<\/a> which wasn\u2019t cleared before release.\u201dThe song was nowhere near the real takeoff it was going to have,\u201d Lil Nas told Billboard<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, my God \u2014 they find out about this, they\u2019re going to get this taken down and I\u2019m going to have to start all over.\u2019 It was like a race against time.\u201d<\/p>\n
