This is the first time we\u2019re gonna do this song live. So we may really fuck this up,\u201d Joel warned the audience. \u201cAt least then you know we\u2019re not on tape and it\u2019ll be an authentic rock n\u2019 roll fuck-up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the disclaimer, Joel and his band ran through an error-free rendition of one of the highlights off 1986\u2019s <em>The Bridge<\/em>&nbsp;and the <em>Ruthless People<\/em> soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p>Although Joel stated that Friday night marked the debut performance of \u201cModern Woman,\u201d the usually reliable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.setlist.fm\/stats\/songs\/billy-joel-7bd6be40.html?song=Modern+Woman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Setlist.fm insists<\/a> that Joel played the song twice in 1987 during a tour of Australia. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billyjoel.com\/tour\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">thorough concert archives on Joel\u2019s website<\/a> do not include the Australia gigs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xi6CFUKw720\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a rough bootleg recording of \u201cModern Woman\u201d allegedly from the October 31st, 1987 show<\/a> in Melbourne seems to confirm that Joel in fact played the song live and, nearly 32 years later, simply forgot about it.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, the performance of \u201cModern Woman\u201d Friday marked the first time anyone has heard it live in over three decades, or ever.
